The dynamics of the surgical arena are more and more dictated by the demands of the public. Patients are aware of the medical alternatives, and minimally invasive surgery is very appealing to them. The media influences the public and a surgeon in France cannot ignore these new surgical technologies. The GSI SPACEMAKER® [technology] saves me time in my SEPS cases, but above all makes the operation safer, less complicated, and less painful for the patients. The post-operative course shows fewer complications than SEPS procedures performed without a balloon.

The benefits of performing minimally invasive procedures relate to reduced morbidity: less pain, infection, and bleeding. A shorter recovery time means a shorter convalescence. The advantage of the GSI system is that it is less complicated. There is an ease of technique with better exposure than with the other systems I've seen. The patient benefits from less pain, better cosmesis and shorter recovery time.

A fellow surgeon took me along for a day with a number of preperitoneal inguinal hernias repaired with balloon dissection technology. This left such a good impression on me and showed such good dissection that I became very impressed and started using it. I have used the SPACEMAKER® product for three years now and have been able to compare it with the competitive dissection balloons. I do not hesitate to use the preperitoneal mesh and SPACEMAKER® surgical balloon dissector with all patients with bilateral hernias, recurrent hernias and with young patients who have a high risk of recurrence or an adverse medical history.
