Traditionally,
the harvest of the saphenous vein from the leg for use in coronary
artery bypass grafting (CABG) has involved a long incision from
the groin to the ankle, the longest incision required in a standard
surgical procedure. Patients of this procedure have typically complained
more about pain and discomfort from the leg incision than from the
chest incision. Complications have been common, because of the high
risk of wound infection from the long leg incision.
GSI offers physicians an alternative method for the harvest of
the saphenous vein. Through the use of GSI's SPACEMAKER® balloon dissection technology, it is possible for the surgeon
to remove the saphenous vein from the leg through a few small
incisions, a minimally invasive approach.
Compared to the patient's experience with traditional open surgery,
the recipient of minimally invasive surgery facilitated by the ENDOSAPH®
vein harvest system may receive the following benefits:
less pain
fewer complications
shorter healing time
faster return to everyday activities
less scarring
You should discuss the potential risks and benefits of all medical
treatment options with your physician so you can be fully informed
prior to treatment.
